Judge Melanie Tobiasson was in an intimate personal relationship with D’Anna for some time.
Judge Tobiasson was on the bench in 2017 when she dismissed the charges brought by a victime against Tony D’Anna for Domestic Battery and Domestic Battery, Strangulation with the notation: “State not proceeding. (Nolle Prosequi)”
Tobiasson stepped down as a Justice of the Peace before a hearing regarding an ethics probe. She was being investigated by Nevada’s Judicial Discipline Commission for almost two years before she agreed to resign in 2021.
Tobiasson alleged that she was trying to protect her daughter, who was 16 years old at the time, from prostitution after she started working at a clothing store she considered a hub for criminal activities.
Tobiasson’s daughter was working at a clothing store that Tobiasson claimed was a front for criminal activities, which included prostitution, and tried to stop it, first by reporting the issue to the police. She said the store was trying to recruit her daughter into prostitution.
The trial regarding Judge Tobiasson’s alleged misconduct was dropped after she decided to quit in 2021.
Tobiasson, 53, took her own life in January 2023, according to the Clark County Coroner. Her death, ruled a suicide, came about a year after she resigned from her duties as a judge to avoid getting embroiled in an ethics investigation.
