116 Judges come together to denounce Sigal Chattah and move to block her permanent appointment as the US Attorney for the District of Nevada

By Steven Barket

116 Judges just say NO to Sigal Chattah’s permanent appointment as US Attorney for the District of Nevada.

This is a very long (19 pages) letter that explains exactly why — in the opinion of 116 retired federal and state judges — Sigal Chattah should NOT be appointed as the next permanent US Attorney for the District of Nevada. These 116 judges had been active during the time frame that Ms. Chattah was an active attorney working in the Clark County and Nevada state legal system. (This letter was reported on and published by the Washington Post online on July 31, 2025.)

In summary — although you should read the entire letter if you’re really interested in this — their opinion is that she is eminently unqualified for a number of reasons outlined in this letter.  (Read letter in its entirety here: 116 Judges Letter. Here’s a key paragraph:

“There are four reasons why this court should decline to appoint Chattah as U.S. Attorney under § 546(d). First, appointing Chattah bypasses the Senate’s fundamental constitutional role to provide advice and consent on executive appointments. Second, Chattah’s history of racially charged, violence-tinged, and inflammatory public statements demonstrates that she lacks the temperament to
serve as U.S. Attorney. Third, her extreme partisan bias suggests she will not fairly exercise the power of this important office. Fourth, Chattah has a history of attempting to undermine confidence in judicial integrity that should disqualify her or the position.”

The sources these retired judges cite in this letter are voluminous.

Mostly, Ms. Chattah’s own words are used to damning effect to frame her and the kind of person she is.

We’ve called out what we view as her poor judgment on a number of levels within the posts on this website as well as her various entanglements with a number of people who I think have questionable motives for interacting with her, including “[Anthony] D’Anna, who is a ‘known and documented organized crime figure” (named as such by Attorney Thomas C. Bradley, Prosecuting Officer for the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline in a disciplinary case brought against the late Judge Melanie Tobiasson — see Paragraph 13, Page 4).

The letter signed by these 116 judges sums things up this way:

“These actions and statements, taken collectively, indicate a sustained and extreme level of political partisanship that call into question whether Chattah can serve as a prosecutor with neutrality, restraint, and fidelity to the rule of law.”

Remember, 116 judges signed this letter. 116! An overwhelming force of opposition to her permanent appointment to be the next US Attorney for the District of Nevada.

I would concur. And, I might add, these judges didn’t even cite some of the things I’ve brought up on this website. You can read my take (written April 1, 2025, the day she began her interim assignment as US Attorney) questioning her permanent appointment here: (Sigal Chattah & Her “Convict Connection”).
